About the Artist...
Thomas Curtis was born on the Navajo reservation. His work is traditional, a reflection of the way he grew up and the way his still lives his live. He started working in silver when he was twelve years old. His grandfathers were both silversmiths and he has shared his skill with his own children and grandchildren.

Curtis says he finds the inspiration for his work by "looking at the ground, the sky, the plants and the four seasons." "I work the way I used to see the old smiths do it. I just picture the outline and I start the piece from the center out."

He entered his first Indian Market in 1984, winning first place and division ribbons that year. He has gone on to win Best of Division, First, Second and Third Place Awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market. Two of his sterling silver miniature pots are in the permanent collection of the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona.
