Indulging their lifelong interest in cultural anthropology, Ed and Arthela Cummings began exploring the lands and indigenous peoples of northern Mexico several years ago.
 We found distinct Indian groups that have been able to maintain their language and cultural heritage despite repeated governmental attempts at assimilation, primarily due to a combination of the resiliency of the people and the remote and difficult terrain they live in.
Here native artisans create and sell unique and exquisite items. This is one of the few ways they can acquire money for essentials like medical care. Sierra Madre Trading Company was founded to help us share the story and art of these little known peoples with the outside world.
We explore the dirt back roads and mountain footpaths to villages in the Sierra Madre mountains and high plains of Mexico, in addition to the villages and pueblos throughout the Southwest USA personally selecting the finest items from native artisans.
